Connect Karla to ChatGPT and Claude

With Karla's MCP server, you can use Karla directly in ChatGPT, Codex and Claude. You add Karla as a custom connector and sign in with your regular Karla account. No API key needed.

All you need is the server URL below and your Karla account.

Choose where you want to use Karla:

ChatGPT and Codex

Set it up on chatgpt.com in a browser. Once Karla is added, it works in both ChatGPT and Codex. Click any screenshot to enlarge it.

Open Plugins

Click Plugins in the left-hand menu.

Add a custom MCP server

Click Add and select Add custom MCP server.

Fill in the fields

Enter a name, e.g. Karla, and paste the server URL https://api.getkarla.ai/v1/mcp. Leave authentication set to OAuth. Then click Create as a plugin.

Connect and sign in

Under Connect Karla, click Continue to Karla. Sign in with your Karla account and allow ChatGPT to connect to Karla. You will then be sent back to ChatGPT.

Use Karla in a chat

Start a new conversation, open the tools menu (+) and select Karla.

Claude

Once Karla is added on claude.ai, it also works in Claude Desktop and the Claude mobile app. Click any screenshot to enlarge it.

Open settings

Click your name in the bottom-left corner and select Settings.

Add a custom connector

Select Connectors, click Add and choose Add custom connector.

Fill in the fields

Enter the name Karla, paste https://api.getkarla.ai/v1/mcp into the Remote MCP server URL field and click Continue.

Confirm and connect

Keep the settings Claude detects automatically (Sign in now and Register automatically) and click Add. Then click Connect next to Karla, sign in with your Karla account and approve access.

Use Karla in a chat

Click + in the bottom-left of the chat box, select Connectors and turn on Karla. The first time a tool is used, Claude will ask for permission.

Team and Enterprise plansAdmins

On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner adds Karla once for the whole organization under Admin settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, using the same URL.

Each member then goes to Settings → Connectors, finds Karla (labeled Custom) and clicks Connect to sign in with their own Karla account.

If something doesn't work

Solution

I can't find the option to add a custom server

Check that your plan supports custom connectors. On Team and Enterprise plans, an admin needs to grant access.

The connection fails when adding it

Make sure the URL is exactly https://api.getkarla.ai/v1/mcp with no spaces.

Sign-in works, but the tools don't

Start a new conversation and check that Karla is turned on in the tools menu.

Access errors after a while

Remove Karla and add it again to refresh your sign-in.
